What one week leaves you: a log, in your words.
The short answer
Feeling stuck is usually not a problem with your circumstances. It is a mood, and a mood decides what you can see as possible before you have considered anything. An emotion is weather: it blows through a Tuesday. A mood is climate, the background you have lived in for months or years, so constant you never noticed it could be otherwise.
The common one is resignation. It says nothing will change here, so why try, it feels exactly like realism, and it works like a ceiling. The detection question is not how do I feel, which returns "fine" every time. It is: what have I stopped attempting? Write that list tonight. It takes about four minutes, and the useful part comes at the end: not one item on it was ever a decision. Then pick one and do something specific about it this week, instead of one more assessment.
Sound familiar?
Tick the ones that are you.
Two or more and the week is worth ten minutes. Nothing you tick is stored.
Not one thing on that list was a decision; each just stopped being a live option, without a meeting.
I do one specific thing instead of one more assessment.

Kirra is thirty-six and thinks of herself as level-headed. Steady job, rent paid, nothing wrong she could put a name to. It is her friend Iona who says it, offhand, over noodles: "You've been in a bad mood since roughly 2021." Kirra laughs it off, splits the bill, walks home. Then she cannot stop turning it over, because she cannot do the thing she wants to do with it, which is refute it. She goes looking for the bad day that would explain it, the breakup or the layoff, and there is not one. There was a slow settling, the way a room dims through an afternoon.
That night she tries a different question: what have I stopped attempting? The list takes four minutes and is longer than she expects. Not one item was a decision. Each just stopped being a live option, quietly, without a meeting.
From Standing Moods.
The turn
Resignation is the only mood that builds the world it keeps describing. Eleven years of evidence that asking never works, gathered entirely by not asking.

Your evidence is usually real; what a mood will not show you is everything it has no use for. And it does not respond to argument. It shifts when you act inside it, on something small and specific enough to actually happen this week.
This is also why the next fresh start lands flat. Most change is rearrangement: new job, new city, new plan, the furniture moved and the house left standing. If the person doing the arranging is unchanged, the new configuration drifts back with eerie reliability, and the clue is repetition.
Why it is called Keel
The part of the boat you never see.
A keel sits under the waterline. Nobody admires it from the dock. But when the wind hits, it is the reason a boat stays upright and holds its course instead of going wherever it is pushed.
What it costs
A week free. Then one payment.

What does it mean to feel stuck in life?
In practice it means the options have stopped presenting themselves. Not that they are gone: you can usually list them if someone asks. They just do not arrive as live possibilities, so nothing gets attempted and nothing gets refused. The reliable tell is the word "just" in your own descriptions, as in "that is just how it is here", said in the tone of a fact.
Why do I feel stuck when nothing in my life is wrong?
Because a mood is not a response to events; it is the background events land in, and it can settle without a bad day to explain it. People go looking for the breakup or the layoff that started it and find nothing, which makes them assume the feeling is a fault in them. It is more ordinary than that. A room can dim through an afternoon without anyone touching the lights.
Will changing jobs or moving cities fix it?
Sometimes, and mostly not. That kind of change is rearrangement: the furniture moves and the house stays. The clue that you need something else is repetition, the same complaint arriving through different circumstances. Before you change anything outside you, write every fresh start of the last ten years in one column and, beside each, the feeling that turned up anyway. The word that repeats is the thing you have been carrying.
How do I get unstuck when I have no motivation?
You do not wait for the motivation, because it is downstream of the mood you are trying to leave. Moods change through action, not insight, and the action has to be specific enough to fail: one email, one phone call, one enquiry with a date on it. The size does not matter. What matters is that it is a thing you did rather than one more accurate assessment of your situation.
Can this actually change?
Yes, and usually not by anything dramatic. A mood is a standing predisposition, not your personality and not a fact about the world, which is why one specific act inside it changes more than a year of thinking about it. People who write the stopped-attempting list report the same surprise: it is longer than expected, and almost nothing on it was ever refused.
